angela giddings with awards

Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) nutrition professionals attended the Annual Georgia School Nutrition Association (GSNA) Conference in Athens on April 10-12, 2025. For the third year, the GSCS Nutrition Program was recognized among the best of the best in the state by receiving the prestigious Gold Scroll Award. The Gold Scroll Award is the highest honor a school nutrition program in Georgia can receive.

Cowan Road Elementary Nutrition Manager and this year’s Griffin-Spalding Chapter President Angela Giddings also received first place in the GSNA State Culinary Competition for her lunch entrée. Giddings has served GSCS for almost 20 years, with 10 of those being in nutrition. She has a culinary arts degree and specializes in pastry cooking.

Giddings stated, “Winning would not be possible if it were not for all of the school nutrition managers and assistant managers. A lot of work goes into meeting the requirements for these awards.”

In addition to receiving those awards, numerous schools were recognized for consistently high and increasing breakfast and lunch participation.

GSCS Deputy Superintendent Dr. Donald Warren stated, “I appreciate the leadership from GSCS Nutrition Director Robert Wheeler. We are proud of our nutrition staff for the work they do every day, which has led to these important recognitions.”

“I truly appreciate the efforts of all of our nutrition staff. This is a great team accomplishment, stated GSCS Nutrition Director Robert Wheeler.

GSNA is the state’s professional organization of school food service employees. GSNA is affiliated with the School Nutrition Association, a national nonprofit organization that represents school nutrition professionals across the nation.
