On Tuesday, May 5, the Griffin-Spalding Board of Education appointed Lashanda Acres and Dottie English as executive officers for the Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS). The role of an executive officer is to supervise school principals.

Lashanda Acres has been an educational leader for over 20 years. Before joining GSCS, she served Meriwether County Schools as an instructional coach, assistant principal and principal. In 2020, Acres joined GSCS as a School Improvement Coordinator, supporting our schools with continuous improvement efforts. She also served as interim principal of Cowan Road Middle for half a year.

Acres holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Alabama A&M University, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Troy State University and a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University.

Dottie English has served GSCS for almost 30 years. She began her career in education as a substitute teacher before serving as a teacher for 16 years and an assistant principal for three years. Since 2017, English has successfully led Jordan Hill Elementary as the principal.

English holds a bachelor’s degree in Middle Level Education from Clayton College and State University and a master’s degree in Education Administration and Supervision from the University of West Georgia.

GSCS Superintendent Dr. Donald Warren stated, “Both of these proven leaders are dedicated to our district and committed to academic achievement. I am confident that their extensive experience, knowledge and credibility will be valuable in leading our system, schools, community and students forward. “
