Griffin-Spalding County Schools (GSCS) is celebrating important successes from the Spring 2026 Georgia Milestones Assessment, reflecting the district's continued commitment to improving teaching, learning and student achievement.
Across the district, students demonstrated growth in several key content areas, with notable gains in elementary mathematics and high school End-of-Course assessments.
One of the district's most encouraging achievements was the improvement in elementary mathematics, where third-grade proficiency increased by eight percentage points and fourth-grade students also showed continued growth. Middle school mathematics saw positive gains, including significant improvement in seventh grade.
At the high school level, students demonstrated growth across multiple End-of-Course assessments, including Algebra, Biology and U.S. History, reflecting continued efforts to strengthen instruction and prepare students for future success.
GSCS Superintendent Dr. Donald Warren stated, "Our focus remains on ensuring that every student grows academically each year. These results reflect the dedication of our students, teachers, school leaders, support staff and families who work together each day to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. GSCS is moving in the right direction, and we are committed to building on this momentum."

Every assessment provides valuable information that helps us better serve our students," stated GSCS Executive Director of Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Dr. Tracy Sims.
During the 2025-2026 school year, the district expanded its focus on:
· Strengthening instructional practices through professional learning for teachers and leaders.
· Increasing the use of data to drive classroom instruction.
· Providing targeted academic interventions in literacy and mathematics.
· Supporting Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student learning and improve instructional strategies.
· Strengthening curriculum alignment to the Georgia Standards of Excellence.
· Expanding coaching and classroom support for educators.
While the district celebrates areas of growth, district leaders are already implementing additional strategies for the 2026-2027 school year to accelerate student achievement. Planned initiatives include:
· Expanded literacy coaching and intervention support.
· Targeted content-area professional learning.
· Increased focus on Professional Learning Communities
· Continued monitoring of student progress through common formative assessments.
· Increased leadership coaching to support school improvement efforts.
