The 6th graders are Washington D.C bound. This is the 76th annual Spalding County Sherriff's Junior Deputy Program trip to D.C. There was a parade to escort the buses (131 students) from Spalding high to I-75. WKEU radio is on each bus interviewing students. Thank you sponsors!

The GSCS Department of Exceptional Students hosted a Parent Expo Event at Griffin Region College and Career Academy (GRCCA), where they shared the services and supports offered for families of students with autism and other disabilities. Keynote speaker Alicia Gosha-Page, founder and CEO of JCole Advocacy Inc., provided education and inspiration as she shared personal stories of her experiences as a parent and caregiver of a child with autism. Board of Education Chairman R. Syntel Brown introduced Mrs. Gosha-Page and Superintendent Dr. Keith Simmons participated in the presentation. Congratulations to Spalding High School Seniors Claire Daniels and Winta Ykeallo, who each received a Southern Rivers Energy Trust scholarship for $3,000 (a benefit of the Operation Round Up program). We are proud of these GSCS scholars who both attended Crescent Elementary, Rehoboth Road Middle School and Spalding High School. This afternoon, GSCS Central Office hosted a job fair for future Work-Based Learning (WBL) Students. Juniors and seniors had the opportunity to meet and interview with different GSCS departments for next year's job opportunities.

Congratulations to Rehoboth Road Middle School student Buruk Ykeallo! Buruk competed in the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair at the University of Georgia over spring break. He earned Four (4) Awards at the state level science fair event. He received a First Honors ribbon (top 10% in the junior division of the state competition). He received the Inspiring Excellence Award and the NASA Earth System Science Award. He also earned a nomination to the Thermo Fisher Junior Innovators Challenge (the Nation's Premier Science Fair Competition for middle school students). Finalists travel to Washington D.C. to compete for a chance to win cash prizes and STEM summer camp scholarships with a top prize of a $25,000 scholarship.


Congratulations to Griffin High School JROTC who recently completed a major inspection, conducted by the U.S. Army, that takes place every 3 years. The inspection is called a JPA (JROTC Program for Accreditation) Inspection. The inspection found that Griffin High School will maintain the highest level of accreditation possible for a United States JROTC unit to receive "Honor Unit with Distinction". The Griffin High Bear Battalion earned a score of 97 out of a possible 100 points. Well done Cadet Bear Battalion Commander Landon Rogers, Senior Army Instructor in charge Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel Flegler, and all cadets. Griffin High had a hall parade today to recognize this major accomplishment.




Tuesday and Wednesday morning, First National Bank hosted Outstanding Student Breakfast events at Griffin High and Spalding High. They provided over 600 Chick-fil-A biscuits to underclassmen (9th, 10th, 11th graders) with an 89.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) or higher. Congratulations Outstanding Students and keep up the good work. Thank you FNB - partner in education for 42 years.

Georgia Milestones testing season is upon us. Please remind your students not to stress or be anxious but to do their best as this is a chance to show what they know. See the attached schedule and tips. During Testing: attend school, be on time, sleep well and eat breakfast.

Thank you to partner in education First National Bank of Griffin for hosting the forty-second (42) annual Outstanding Student Banquet! This event recognizes high school seniors that have an 89.5 grade point average or above. Each outstanding student received a certificate and a $25 voucher to either open a bank account or deposit in an existing account. Keynote speaker Dennis Gardin, Executive Director of the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, provided an inspirational message of hope and perseverance. Margo's Mediterranean Cuisine catered the event. Congratulations to all of the outstanding seniors.
