Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) is so very thankful for all of our Partners in Education. So many businesses and organizations help provide opportunities and experiences for our students and teachers. Our district partners that each contribute in excess of $10,000 in value to help students are Brightmoor, Chick-fil-A, Dairy Queen, First National Bank, Georgia Banking Company, Marco's Pizza, Piedmont Fayette Hospital and United Bank. Thank you! Many others support the REACH and similar scholarships, individual schools, fine arts, athletics, and more. Some, like Norcom, provide school supplies. Some take part in the Partners in Education Fundraiser Golf Tournament (Sept 25 this year). Others serve as mentors and reading tutors for students. Community churches host events, volunteer at schools and pray for our students and staff. Thank you Griffin and Spalding for supporting our future through public education. We need you and we appreciate you!

Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Historic City Hall in Griffin, there will be an event for high school female students age 14 through 18. Girls in Public Works Day will allow students to explore career opportunities and possibly earn a college scholarship.

GSCS is grateful for wonderful Partners in Education! One of our major district level partners, United Bank, made check presentation this week. Their donations help support the athletic programs at both high schools, the college and career academy, and they provide field trip scholarships and classroom grants to benefit students through the Griffin-Spalding Partners in Education foundation. GSCS principals were celebrated today for their attendance efforts during the 2025-26 school year. Congratulations to Crescent Elementary for having the lowest absences in the district! Congratulations to Carver Road Middle for having the largest decrease in absences from the previous year! Congratulations to Beaverbrook, Futral Road, Jackson Road and Crescent Elementary for being below the state average in absences!

GSCS students participated in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, hosted by the University of Georgia Extension, August 21–22, 2026. As part of this regional citizen-science initiative, students across the district selected a blooming plant. They observed it for 15 minutes, carefully counting and recording each pollinator that visited the plant.
Following their observations, students entered their data into the project’s online portal, contributing to a growing dataset collected across six southeastern states. Through this hands-on investigation, students strengthened their scientific observation and data-collection skills while learning to identify more than seven types of pollinators. The experience provided students with an authentic opportunity to contribute to a large-scale scientific effort while deepening their understanding of the important role pollinators play in our ecosystems.

The 2026 football season is underway! The Griffin Bears defeated Locust Grove High tonight at home by a score of 54-34. Spalding High also won 27-19 on the road at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy. Go Bears and Go Jags!

Today middle and high school fall Griffin-Spalding County Schools Athletics participated in the Beyond Self Athlete's Assembly, led by Community Partner and Mentor David Johnson. The Beyond Self Athlete Program is meant to grow student leadership skills, build character and improve school culture. Athletes were told they are all Persons Of Influence (POI) and the importance of the 3 R's: Respect Yourself, Respect Others and Take Responsibility. Keynote Speaker Tunji Adebayo Jr. inspired student-athletes to develop the skills and attitudes they need to recognize their potential. He taught the students that everyone is unique and can achieve greatness.

2026 Griffin-Spalding County School System Educator Hall of Fame nominations are open Aug 5 – Sept. 11, 2026. Don't miss out on nominating an exemplary GSCS educator! Nomination forms are available at this link https://forms.gle/2d3HDkW9uaPDAUh5A. The 2026 class will be inducted during a special ceremony on October 27 at the Griffin-Spalding Board of Education meeting.
Educators should be nominated for his/her outstanding and significant contributions to students, staff, parents and the community during their employment at GSCS. Nominees must have been employed at GSCS for a minimum of 10 years and be retired for at least five years.
