On Monday, April 8, 2024, a partial solar eclipse will pass over North America, between 1:45 p.m. and 4:20 p.m., with the sky becoming darkest at the peak of 3:04 p.m. This is our first day back from Spring Break and will be a normal school day for our district. School operations, including check-in and check-out procedures, and all extra-curricular and athletic events will continue as normal. To ensure a safe school day and dismissal, solar-viewing glasses will be provided to all Pre-K through 12th-grade students and teachers.
While this natural phenomenon does provide a unique learning opportunity and is an exciting experience for our students, we urge parents to review the attached safety precautions and discuss them with your child(ren) to ensure the safety of their eyes.

Today, State School Superintendent Richard Woods surprised GSCS Construction and Facilities Director Bruce Ballard with his RISE Award plaque. Bruce is one of two winners of the 2023-2024 Georgia RISE (Recognizing Inspirational School Employees) Award. Congratulations to Bruce and his entire department for their exemplary service. Recently, the State School Superintendent announced AP Honor Schools. Griffin High School was named an AP Expansion School which means it had 25% growth in AP student participation from May 2022 to May 2023 and a minimum of 25 students testing in May 2022. Way to go GHS!

Did you know that Moore Elementary School has a chess club. Pastor Gerod Duff of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and other school partners/ mentors teach students how to play chess each Tuesday and Thursday. GSCS is thankful for community partners and mentors.

GSCS school nursing services provided a free community screening event for students registering for Griffin-Spalding County Schools in conjunction with Pre-K registration. They provided free screenings for hearing, vision, nutrition and dental yesterday and will again tomorrow.
