Monday morning could see a low temperature of 20 degrees. With windchill, it could feel as cold as 13 degrees. Please dress children warmly with layers to block the wind. Students at bus stops and walking to school need to use caution. Transportation staff will arrive early to start and warm buses, but delays are possible. Our transportation team will use text and e-mail alerts to communicate any delays if a bus has trouble starting.

Today, over 400 Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) Student Athletes attended the seasonal Beyond Self Athletes Assembly, an event dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders. Students heard an inspiring keynote address from U.S. Army Veteran and Olympic Gold Medalist Melvin Pender. Also, during the assembly, through a partnership with AT&T and Beyond Self, 50 new laptops were given out to deserving student-athletes from the fall sports season, providing critical technology access to families in the community.
Some student athletes who received a new laptop were nominated by their coach for demonstrating the three R’s: Respect yourself, Respect others and take Responsibility. Others received a laptop for completing the captain’s workshop and serving as Key People of Influence for the winter season. Then, a lucky few were chosen after answering questions correctly about the program and the keynote speaker.
