The GSCS Federal Programs Department hosted the first District Parent Advisory Council meeting of the 2025-2026 school year on October 28th. The council meets three times a year with the District Family and Community Engagement Specialist to provide input and feedback on district policies. These meetings provide a great opportunity for collaboration between parents and the school system. We invite more parents to join the District Parent Advisory Council. If you are interested in being involved, please contact Dr. LaJuana Love at lajuana.love@gscs.org.

Yesterday, the Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting at Fairmont Community Center for the new book vending machine. We are so thankful that so many people turned out to support this continued commitment to improving literacy in Griffin-Spalding! This was a great collaboration between the city, county, chamber, school system, Partners In Education and many other organizations.

Rehoboth Road Middle School students had an incredible opportunity to visit Southern Crescent Technical College this week for a hands-on introduction to technical education and career pathways. Students explored multiple programs, met instructors and experienced real-world applications of classroom learning. Feedback from both students and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many already expressing new interest in future career options. GSCS appreciates the SCTC staff for organizing such an engaging day and looks forward to the possibility of expanding this experience to all middle schools next year.

This morning, Board of Education Chairman R. Syntel Brown hosted a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Town Hall meeting at GSCS Central Office. District leaders provided helpful information and resources.

The GSCS Department of Exceptional Students (DES) staff recently completed the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification, a blended learning program that combines online modules with in-person water safety training, instruction, and skill application.
The American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program serves a dual purpose:
• To teach people of all ages and abilities how to be safe in, on, and around water
• To provide structured, progressive instruction that develops swimming skills and fosters confident, proficient swimmers
By earning this certification, GSCS DES staff are now equipped to deliver foundational swimming and water safety instruction tailored to the needs of students with disabilities. This initiative supports the district’s commitment to inclusive practices, ensuring that all students can safely and confidently participate in aquatic activities.
Additionally, this training expands opportunities for DES students to participate in Special Olympics swimming events and other adaptive sports programs, promoting physical fitness, confidence, and community involvement.
