Nurse Bridges at Kennedy Road Middle School is leading a weekly Healthcare Club for students interested in pursuing careers in the field. So far, they have made "boo-boo bags" for teachers, cultured bacteria from common surfaces, donned and doffed PPE and learned the importance of proper handwashing with Glo-Germs. Thank you, Nurse Bridges, for sharing your compassion for healthcare to inspire future generations!






Congratulations to the Carver Road Middle School Football Team for being league champions, the 2025 Georgia REACH Scholarship Recipients and Rehoboth Road Middle School for being this month's Board Spotlight School! All were recognized at the board of education meeting last evening.
At last night's board of education meeting, Robbie Burke (accepted by his wife Dawn Burke) was recognized and inducted into the 2025 GSCS Educator Hall of Fame. GSCS is proud to acknowledge Robbie Burke for his outstanding and significant contributions to students, staff, parents and the community during his employment. Congratulations to the Burke family!

Happy Veterans Day! This morning, GHS Army JROTC Bear Battalion hosted a Veterans Day Celebration. The program consisted of performances by the GHS Band of Gold and Chorus, Bear Battalion roll call and cadet creed, the history of Veterans Day, Veterans and POW/MIA recognitions and remarks from Guest Speaker Major (Ret) General Montague Winfield. Major Winfield wanted the GHS Bear Battalion to remember three things: “I am, I can and I will.”
Major Winfield is a native of Petersburg, Virginia. He retired from the military after 31 years and later retired as an Emergency Management Executive from the civilian federal workforce after 12 years of service. His top civilian award is the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service. His military decorations included the Distinguished Service Medal, two Defense Superior Service Medals and three Legions of Merit. He is also Ranger, French Commando, Airborne and Air Assault qualified.

GSCS and Butts County Schools' Exceptional Students had an awesome day at the Special Olympics Track & Field Event today at Spalding High School! Students kicked off the event with a parade, then competed in track and field events and played developmental games. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event so fun and special for our students! Shout out to the SHS Blue Jag Funk Marching Band, chorus and student volunteers!

Today, City of Griffin Economic Development Director Jeremy Stratton spoke with GHS personal finance and economics students about how economic development impacts them. Students worked in groups to brainstorm and develop a plan for the land occupied by the current airport. Some of the developments that these students want to see include new restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with our students!

The GSCS Federal Programs Department hosted the first District Parent Advisory Council meeting of the 2025-2026 school year on October 28th. The council meets three times a year with the District Family and Community Engagement Specialist to provide input and feedback on district policies. These meetings provide a great opportunity for collaboration between parents and the school system. We invite more parents to join the District Parent Advisory Council.
