On April 17, Beaverbrook Elementary School, in conjunction with the Griffin-Spalding County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class, held a ribbon-cutting for "The Brook Community Closet." The ribbon-cutting culminated several months of work by the group to create a place for Beaverbrook students and parents to have access to clothing, shoes, toiletries and more. there is also a dressing room and mural (painted by two former GSCS graduates). In the future, the school hopes to expand the support to include food for weekends as well. The project started as a small initiative spurred by School Counselor Kimberly RV and Nurse Libby Reeves and quickly grew into a resource for students, parents and the community. Through a growing partnership with "Operation Lunchbox," The Brook Community Closet will hopefully be a sustainable resource for the community for years to come. Beaverbrook would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Central Georgia EMC, Servpro, Country Financial, Beck, Owen and Murray, Blasingame Pest Control, Georgia Power, Southern Crescent Technical College and the Griffin-Spalding County School System for support with this project.

Today was a great day for literacy at GSCS! The new BookWorm Vending Machines were unveiled at every school! Students were able to use tokens to purchase a book for their personal home libraries! Students earn tokens as positive reinforcement for good behavior and accomplishments. These vending machines support our Ready Improvement for Student Excellence (RISE) initiative. Reading is a fundamental building block for educational success. GSCS is excited about this new program!
